The precise pathophysiology of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder is not fully understood, but these conditions are thought to result from imbalances in the complex interrelated neurotransmitter systems involving dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine, also known as noradrenaline,in regions of the brain including the limbic system, striatum and the prefrontal cortex.
